Remove tartar
Remove mineralised deposits that can no longer be effectively eliminated by brushing.

Oral hygiene & prevention · Tangier
Remove tartar and dental biofilm, protect your gums and rediscover the feeling of a truly clean mouth. A simple but essential treatment for maintaining your oral health.
Oral hygiene & prevention
Dental plaque forms every day on the surface of the teeth. When it is not removed sufficiently, it can mineralise and become tartar. Once hardened, this deposit can no longer be properly removed by brushing at home.
Professional dental scaling consists of removing these deposits above and, when indicated, close to the gumline, then cleaning and polishing the tooth surfaces.
At EstheticaPlus in Tangier, scaling is part of a preventive approach: we also assess the condition of the gums, any bleeding, plaque accumulation and the areas that need more attention in your daily routine.
Remove mineralised deposits that can no longer be effectively eliminated by brushing.
Identify bleeding, inflammation or other signs that may require further assessment.
Smooth the cleaned surfaces and reduce some superficial staining when present.
Identify areas that are difficult to clean and improve your hygiene routine between appointments.

Why have dental scaling?
Plaque and tartar build-up promotes gum inflammation. Red, swollen gums or gums that bleed when brushing should therefore not simply be ignored.
The treatment mechanically removes tartar and deposits adhering to the tooth surfaces.
Clean tooth surfaces are easier to maintain with brushing and interdental cleaning.
The appointment also helps identify signs that may justify a more detailed periodontal assessment.
Professional cleaning may be useful before some aesthetic or restorative treatments when recommended by the practitioner.
An important distinction
Not all dental cleanings address the same situation. If the gums are healthy or only mildly inflamed, professional cleaning may be enough. If periodontal pockets or diagnosed periodontitis are present, deeper treatment may be required.
Prevention & hygiene
Cleaning accessible tartar and plaque deposits, combined with polishing and personalised oral-hygiene advice.
Periodontology
Cleaning beneath the gumline and the root surfaces when periodontal disease requires specific treatment.
Your appointment
The exact protocol depends on the condition of your teeth and gums. A clinical examination determines whether you simply need a hygiene treatment or whether additional periodontal care is required.
The practitioner assesses deposits, gum inflammation, any bleeding and areas that are difficult to clean.
Deposits are removed using suitable instruments, including ultrasonic devices when indicated.
The surfaces are cleaned and then polished to remove residues and some external staining.
Brushing, interdental cleaning and follow-up frequency are adapted to your actual situation.
How often?
Frequency depends in particular on how quickly tartar forms, the condition of the gums, daily hygiene, smoking, orthodontic treatment and periodontal history. The appropriate schedule is therefore decided after examination.
Consider booking an appointment if you notice
If your hygiene is good and tartar formation is limited, appointments may be spaced further apart. Clinical monitoring allows the frequency to be adjusted to your profile.
Rapid build-up, bleeding or recurring inflammation may justify more frequent appointments and stronger hygiene measures.
Periodontal maintenance follows a specific schedule determined by the level of risk and the response to treatment.
These situations may require specific monitoring and hygiene techniques. Your practitioner adapts follow-up to your appliances or restorations.
Indicative EstheticaPlus fee
The EstheticaPlus 2026 price list currently shows an indicative fee of €50 to €70 for “scaling + polishing”.
The actual amount depends on the extent of the deposits and, above all, on the type of care required. Simple preventive scaling and subgingival periodontal treatment are not the same procedure.
Indicative fee subject to change. The final indication and price are confirmed after clinical examination. After the appointment
Scaling removes existing deposits, but plaque naturally begins to form again. Home care therefore remains the most important part of prevention.
Use a soft toothbrush and a suitable fluoride toothpaste. Excessive pressure does not improve cleaning.
Dental floss or interdental brushes reach areas that a toothbrush alone does not clean well.
Inflamed gums may remain temporarily sensitive. Persistent or significant bleeding should, however, be checked.
Frequency is not universal: it should be adapted to your gum health and individual risk.
Scaling or whitening?
Scaling and polishing can make the smile look cleaner by removing tartar and some surface staining. However, they do not change the tooth’s natural intrinsic colour.
Teeth whitening has a different objective: to lighten the shade of natural teeth after checking the condition of the teeth and gums.
Discover teeth whitening →Starting with a clean mouth mainly helps distinguish what is simply external staining from what is genuinely the natural shade of the tooth.
